The conversation
How do a cafe owner and a real estate agent turn a Korean pear juice into a drink sold in about 5,000 stores? I sat down with Liam Gostencnik and Tim O'Sullivan, the Melbourne mates who co-founded Bae Juice, a 100% Korean pear juice you drink before a night out.
We get into the trip to Seoul that sparked the idea, handing it out with lattes at the cafe, and why a $10,000 photo shoot got 11 likes while a quick video got 5,000 views. They share how Dan Murphy's said no twice before a 12-store trial grew to 240, the $15,000 TikTok campaign they paid off in two parts, and how their Korean maker shipped a full container with no payment terms.
They also open up on borrowing $50,000 from family to pay a bill, the contract mistakes they'd fix, and taking the brand to New York.
