The conversation

IN THIS
EPISODE.

Can you be addicted to work? I sat down with Charlène Gisèle, a former big law litigator turned high-performance coach and clinical hypnotherapist who now works in burnout prevention.

Charlène once worked 110 hours in a week and woke up to a vacuum cleaner poking her head after she collapsed behind her desk. She explains why work is the one addiction society cheers on, how childhood beliefs about love and grades can drive it, and the three Ds she sees in burnt-out high achievers: divorce, disease and death. We also get into why she puts sleep in her calendar marked 'do not delete', the running shoes she leaves in front of her coffee machine, and how her father's stroke became her wake-up call.

She makes the case that you can be ambitious without burning out, as long as you know your own patterns.
